Rain Day
I know it is not news to tell you that this past Friday the world on the East Coast stopped to pay homage to the beast called Ernesto.
And I was one of them by receiving my first day off of its kind: a rain day!
Yes, have you ever thought about the fact that retail is controlled by the weather? I hadn't but quickly learned this on Friday. I received a call from my Ann Taylor manager to not come downtown as the rain was keeping the customers away. She couldn't afford to pay us all, so was among the many employees who got to stay home.
Because of the storm DC got a lot of water. Limbs were down in the road and even some flooding, but nothing as life-threating as my friends to the South endured.
The photo to the right was taken by my friend in Norfolk, VA. This is the street underwater outside her apartment building. The water was knee deep she said. The power went out for a couple of hours and landlocked her for the day. Gross. Yet, I know it was much worse for others, especially some in eastern North Carolina where I served a church this past year. I hear they are still trying to float their way out of a mess.
So, as much as I enjoyed the day off to do as I pleased, I vote for no more rain days in the future. May the tropical storms stay at sea. We don't want to see any more of you on land anytime soon! (Plus, I need the work)
