Another Year in the Life

I'm a twenty something associate pastor at a Baptist church, newly married who loves to share my narrative with others according to my friends. I find joy in writing even though I readily admit that I'm a horrible speller (pardon my errors). Come journey through my reflections of life, work and faith. This year is bound to be interesting, I know!

Much to Learn

I already knew that seminary would not teach me everything that I would have to know about being a pastor. But, I’m already wishing there are things that I wish I knew more about . . . like budget planning.

This week I’ve been charged with the task of putting my two-cents in to the Finance committee about what kind of money I’ll need to carry out my vision of education and youth ministry in 2007. What an overwhelming task. How many thousand dollars does it really take to get a group of kids to camp? I’m not sure, especially since we are still in the process of deciding where we are going. And, how much money does it take to “develop education leaders?” Or, do “general outreach?”

I know the list of “what I wished I learned in seminary” will grow exponentially over the next year. But, I am very glad to be a place full of helpful colleagues who can help answer my thousand questions. I know with their support, I may still feel overwhelmed but answers are in sight! It is a learning experience here every day.

Camp will be approximately $14,000.. Depending on how many kids, where, and how far you have to travel.

Factor in subsidizing part of camp for your kids depending on the cost..

Factor on overall camp expenses.. Yeah $14 was about what we spent to take 30 people to Louisianna from Oklahoma.

You might check out Passport Youth Camps... I believe they are even having a couple weeks up in Boston.. Which would be closer.. The other three are in Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisianna..

    passportcamps.org

    just some suggestions..
