Another Year in the Life

I'm a twenty something associate pastor at a Baptist church, newly married who loves to share my narrative with others according to my friends. I find joy in writing even though I readily admit that I'm a horrible speller (pardon my errors). Come journey through my reflections of life, work and faith. This year is bound to be interesting, I know!

"My Prayer"

Often times people have asked me if it is ok to pray for strange things like healing for their pets or to find a good parking space at Wal-Mart, or even to not have their outside wedding rained out. "But, I’m just a preacher, not God" I protest. I really don’t have great answers to these questions. However, I’ve known some really wonderful people who have claimed prayer has aided them in all of these situations… but then again, I wonder, how is a parking space that important to the eternal workings of our holy God? I just don’t know???

But, I have to confess I do am adding to my prayer list something of this strange nature.

God, please don’t let my computer crash before I have a permanent job.

My 5 year old laptop is reaching the end of its life. It has been with me through so much. I’m actually kind of attached to it (even though the past year booting it up has taken more time than waiting for Christmas in January). I am addicted to all the things in life that my computer can give me: internet access, email and digital photo cropping, etc. But currently, there is one major problem that is as annoying as anything especially when there’s a deadline at hand.

It is what I like to call the flying mouse disease. The built in mouse on my laptop has developed a mind of it own over the past six months. It is a sickness that comes and goes. Symptoms include the mouse deciding on its own to flash back and forth across the screen at its own pace and it clicking on items on my desktop at its own discretion. (I even tried installing an external mouse like the one pictured to the right-- well, maybe not exactly--in order to fix the problem but it has helped me none). When the flying mouse disease takes affect there is nothing I can do besides shut the machine down and hope for a better computer day tomorrow.

In fact, as I have been writing this piece, the flying mouse has seemingly sensed that I was talking about him; thus making his appearance known to me yet again. It’s possessed I say, truly possessed. Maybe it is a good thing that I’ll be in the market for a new computer soon. I am NOT getting another Dell. (Their customer service sucks- I just have to put my two cents in here). Does anyone have any suggestions of your favorite PC machines? I am happily preparing for my big shopping day when I can lay down the flying mouse to its final resting place. AMEN.
